The International M.Sc. “Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and Waste Water Process Engineering” (WASTE)
Presents

VI
International Symposium 2022
Emerging Technologies and Transition to Circular Economy

On 4th November 2022 , 09:00 (CET)

About the Symposium

Each year the MSc. WASTE , a department of the
University of Stuttgart , organizes the International Symposium wherein experts from industry and academia, and young minds come together to share knowledge and discuss challenges to sustainable development and environmental security.
In the wake of the consequential success of the Fifth International Symposium held online in 2021 with more than 168 delegates from 32 different countries attended virtual amidst the COVID pandemic; we are delighted to announce VI International Symposium – Emerging Technologies and Transition to Circular Economy to be held hybrid (in-person and online) in Stuttgart, Germany, on 4th November 2022.

Our purpose

The VI International Symposium on Emerging Technologies and Transition to Circular Economy intends to explore innovative advances that can address and shepherd the transition to inclusive circular solutions (economy), unlocking the potential to curb emissions for a sustainable future. Emerging technologies and their convergence towards a circular economy paradigm have a transformational effect across global value chains; therefore, M.Sc. WASTE Symposium 2022 aims to provide a platform where international cross-disciplinary professionals come together to share their deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities on environmental topics. Professionals from different sectors will also give an overview of global trends, industries at the forefront of this transition, and how green innovation can be leveraged to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The circular economy seeks to stimulate economic growth without jeopardizing the environment, positioning itself as a cornerstone for resilient, low-carbon economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic (United Nations). Through an ambitious yet pragmatic approach based on scientific evidence, we can accelerate this transformation and enter the era of a new and more sustainable and climate-resilient world.

Call For Papers

If you are a student currently conducting a Project, Master/Bachelor Thesis, or you have already finished research in the field of environmental technology, we will be pleased to invite you to participate in our Call For Paper (Abstract). This is a contest-oriented activity; therefore, rewards will be provided to the three best research works according to our evaluation panel (Consolidated by our International Speakers). Research on the following core topics could be presented during our Symposium:

1. Current Trends in Emission Control

2. Circular Economy and Waste Management

3. Sustainable Development Goals and COP 26

This is an excellent opportunity for all young professionals and students to be recognized as speakers at international conferences, meeting the community involved in the field. As an incentive, the authors of all accepted abstracts will receive a certificate of participation in our Symposium under the modality “Speaker.” If you are selected to participate in our Symposium with your abstract, you will be asked to present your topic in a ten minutes conference with five additional minutes for answering questions from the audience and evaluators. Just, in that case, you must also provide your presentation. The deadlines to submit the documents are shown below:
Deadline for submitting Abstracts: 30.09.2022
Deadline for submitting Presentations: 13.10.2022

The documents must be sent to the following Email address: info@waste.uni-stuttgart.de; the registration form must also be filled up. The templates for the abstracts and presentations can be found in the following link:

As a Civil Engineer, I am keen to design and develop infrastructure that recycles essential natural resources, incorporating environmental protection measures. A well-organized V International Symposium was an insightful and informative platform for me where I developed a whole new perspective on the world’s waste (air, solid, and water) management situation from diverse professional speakers.

Having an overall perspective, first as an attendee, then organizer, and finally as a speaker, I believe that WASTE International Symposium has surpassed its aims of exchanging knowledge and creating a networking platform for people from all over the world. It provides a medium to express your ideas, receives valuable suggestions from experts attending as international speakers, grow confidence and makes you feel like a part of the M.Sc. WASTE Family.

The V International M.Sc. WASTE Symposium on Current Challenges in Sustainability discussed the emerging and ongoing technologies, environmental impacts of the Covid -19 pandemic, and different countries’ perspectives. It was intended to provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary professionals to exchange their academic and technical knowledge on environmental topics.

Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (United Nations). Industrial and economic development has always been a concern, but currently, the discussion on how to achieve these goals while protecting the environment became a relevant trending topic that must be discussed and considered worldwide. What are the positive and negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the environment?

How can we build a more sustainable global economy?

What have we learned so far as a society from the pandemic?

How are developed and developing countries achieving sustainability?

What are the current challenges to achieving United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals?

The first step to addressing such questions is offering the chance to hold discussions about environmental technologies. The Symposium is aimed to find a coalition point for international speakers to share their experiences working and researching environmental technologies in the fields of Solid Waste, Waste Water Process Engineering along with Air Quality Control.

International speakers had presentations to share their experience and knowledge in the field of sustainability and to provide fresh insights into their national contexts. The core international conferences were framed in the following topics:

Emerging and Ongoing Technologies – “Trending technologies and processes”

COVID – 19 – “Environmental impacts and new challenges faced throughout the pandemic”

Germany and developing countries’ perspectives – “Placing sustainability into context”

The IV Version of the M.Sc. WASTE International Symposium Transition to a Sustainable Future, was intended to provide a networking opportunity for professionals and sustainability enthusiastic personnel to discuss and considered the following topics :

What is a smart city?

What must be done in or order to make a city ‘’smart“?

Which are the renewable energy sources?

How is green energy being developed?

What are the roles of society, industries, and government in the circular economy? How have the technologies evolved in the industry during the last years?

The First step to addressing such questions is to hold in-depth discussions on the subject. The symposium was aimed at a coalition point for international speakers to share their experiences working with Smart Cities, EnergyTransition, and Circular Economy. Students were also welcomed to contribute to and foster the Symposium through the Call for research posters and papers, where they are invited to present their work. The best research was awarded. Further details regarding the event registration and deadlines could be found in this brochure. The Symposium was organized by the International Master of Science “Air Quality Control, Solid Waste, and Waste Water Process Engineering (WASTE) – University of Stuttgart”. The registration form must be filled up via our webpage: www.wasteclub.net/internationalsymposium2020 Upon successful registration you shall receive the invitation link to our webinar.
